Where the Wind Comes From
A visually striking road movie about friendship and an ode to Tunisia's youth after the Arab Spring.
Alyssa and Mehdi have been best friends since childhood and live in a neighbourhood on the outskirts of Tunis. They are directionless and uncertain about the future. Mehdi can’t find a job, and Alyssa can’t find the motivation to study for the university entrance exams. When Alyssa comes across an ad for an art competition in Djerba, she sees an opportunity for both of them to move to Germany. She signs Mehdi up, and together they set off on a journey that could change their lives—and put their friendship to the test.
Where the Wind Comes From masterfully balances being a beautiful film about a friendship under strain, with a portrait of a generation shaped by the tension between hope and reality in the post-revolution era.
