A grand film adaptation of the life of the superstar Umm Kulthum – one of the greatest icons in Arab music.
El Sett – Arabic for «The Lady» – follows Umm Kulthum from her humble childhood in the Nile Delta to her rise as one of the most powerful cultural figures in modern Arab history. The film opens at the height of her career, with a concert in Paris in 1967, then moves back and forth through time, tracing her artistic journey and emergence as an independent artist and businesswoman in complete control of her music and her life.
