We have gathered four short films from Tunisia, Bahrain, Jordan and Syria that show the range of contemporary Arabic short films.

When an urgent bodily need forces a taxi driver to stop by a tree, a simple pause sets off a chain of unexpected events.

A Beautiful Excuse For a Deadly Sin (Hashim Sharaf | Bahrain | 16 min)

A young man wants to live together with his horse and tries to bring it into his house via a narrow staircase – much to the dismay of his neighbours.

The Parrot (Amjad Al Rasheed & Darin J. Sallam | Jordan | 18 min)

A Mizrahi Jewish family from Tunisia tries to settle into their new home in Haifa, Palestine in 1948, but is haunted by a disturbing houseguest – a large blue parrot that once belonged to the former Arab residents.

My Name Is Hope (Sherwan Haji | Syria | 20 min)

A short film about the timeless struggle between oppressor and oppressed in an era where forgetting has become the deadliest weapon against freedom.
