Eagles of the Republic
Egypt’s most beloved actor is pressured into playing in a film commissioned by the authorities. Fearing he might lose everything, he reluctantly accepts the part and is drawn into the inner circle of power
The assignment is to portray Egypt’s president in a state-funded propaganda film. Like a moth drawn to the flame, he enters into a relationship with the mysterious wife of the general in charge of the production.
Eagles of the Republic, the third collaboration between Tarek Saleh and Fares Fares, had its world premiere in the main competition at Cannes earlier this year. The film is bold and tackles censorship and artistic freedom of expression in contemporary Egypt.

Sunday, March 15, CARLS and Arab Film Days invite you to a culinary cinema screening of EAGLES OF THE REPUBLIC. Egypt's national dish, Koshari á la Carls, will be served at the screening.
