Comedian Noam Shuster Eliassi takes aim at relations between Israel and Palestine, and the struggle for equal treatment.

Coexistence, My Ass! is based on Eliassi’s stand-up show of the same name. She grew up in the community of Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam, often referred to as the «Oasis of Peace.» Here, Palestinians and Israelis lived together to prove that coexistence could, in fact, be possible. As time passes and violence against Palestinians increases – particularly in the period following October 7 – she gradually reconsiders the idea of coexistence: where there is an imbalance of power, coexistence can never be achieved.

This powerful, at times very funny, documentary demonstrates the political force of humour.

Culture Hub: Humour and Resistance – Stand-Up for the World?

Ahead of the screening on Friday, March 20, there will be a conversation between comedian Hani Hussein and public commentator Rania Iraki about the role of humour in political conflicts, the space for expression for satire and how comedians can challenge power and established narratives.

The conversation takes place in the Vika Basement at 20.15, and will be in Norwegian.

Culture Hub: Wine Tasting

On Saturday, March 21, you can start the festival evening with a wine tasting in the Vika basement from 16.00. Wines from the Arab world are bold, spicy, and full of personality – just like the films we show.
