Razzia is an epic film about racism, discrimination and what it means to be different. The film follows five different storylines, that are tied together in one explosive finale. This is the sixth film from Nabil Ayouch, one of the most renowned directors from the Middle East. His last film, Much Loved, was prohibited in Morocco because it portrayed prostitution in Marrakech. Ayouch is a controversial figure, and Razzia is also a film that takes a critical stance on political and social issues in the country. Every story revolves around different forms of discrimination and intolerance. We get acquainted with the Berber teacher in the Altlas-mountains who is denied teaching his pupils in the only language they understand, the Jewish restaurant owner who has to hide his identity, and a young, gay wannabe-rock star who wants to look like Freddie Mercury. Each, they are gripping stories, and, as always with Ayouch’s films, the cinematography is incredible and the acting world class.
