Salaam Dunk

Salaam Dunk tells the touching story of female basketball players at the American University of Iraq, Suleimani. In the beginning of the movie, we get to meet a group of women with little knowledge of sports, but with high ambitions. Their road to victory is full of sweat and tears, and this makes the girls closer and closer throughout the movie.

A lot more than the physical aspect of being an athlete, the movie shows challenges attached to understanding, respect and interaction with others. First of all, it is a history about breaking boundaries, especially those linked to the role of women in the society.

With both clips from private video diaries and interviews, we get close to the girls and their personal experiences and it gives us insight in their daily life characterized by unpredictability and insecurity. In Salaam Dunk we are dragged into the world of Iraqi girls with different backgrounds, different religions and partly different ambitions, but with one important thing in common: The love for basketball and each other.
