Festival opening, Arabian Film Days 2013: The Attack

We are very excited to announce that this year's opening film at the Arabian Film Days is The Attack, by the Lebanese director Ziad Doueiri. A suggestive film that revolves around the Palestine/Israel conflict and terror, masterly combined with aspects of love. We are also happy to inform that Doueiri will be present at the Arabian Film Days and he will be joining in a discussion after the screening of his movie.

The Attack is an engaging thriller that has the potential to shock, move and provoke the audience.

Director Ziad Doueiri has made a film that strikes a balance between voluminous social questions and questions linked to close relations and family. The film is an adaption of a book with the same title, written by the Algerian writer Yasmina Khadra.

The story is set in Tel Aviv, Israel were the Palestinian Amin Jaafari works as a surgeon. He has a successful life; he lives in a beautiful house with his wife, Siham, and his entourage consists solely of Jewish friends. One day his world falls apart. A suicide bomb explodes in Tel Aviv. While Amin tries to save as many victims as possible, the local authorities contact him to identify the main suspect. It is his wife, Siham.

Amin cannot come to terms with what is happening. He is left both heartbroken and with a series of questions. The search for the answers to these questions takes him places he never thought he would go and leaves him with answers he never thought one could find.

The Attack tells a unique story that raises questions rarely told on film before. In a masterful way it combines intense excitement with a deep understanding and a humanistic message. We believe that the audience will leave the cinema feeling both provoked and enlightened by what they just experienced.

In addition it is worth mentioning that the director him self is known for his charismatic presence and his varied background, that includes work as a cameraman for Quentin Tarantino.

We look forward to having him here, and hope you are as excited as us!
