Arabian Filmdays 2011

Films from the South in cooperation with Babel Filmsociety and The Norwegian Film Institute invites you to a two-day festival dedicated exclusively to Arab films, at Cinemateket Saturday 30th of April and Sunday 1st of May 2011. A great festival sucsess. Arabian Filmdays.

These last months everyone's eyes have been upon the Middle East, above all upon Egypt with its strategically important position in the region. When we experience political upheavals in foreign countries, a need for more information occurs, also and especially outside of what the regular news coverage on television and newspapers are able to convey. During the Arabian Filmdays we will show the top relevant film “The Agenda and Me”, which was shot during the recent revolution in Cairo, as well as a number of current and older movies from the Middle East. In addition we promise a couple of cultural and political arrangements, food, drinks and music. There really is no reason not to spend this weekend with Babel filmclub and Films from the South!

ARABIAN NIGHT, saturday 20:30 Filmens Hus
On Saturday after the last screening we invite to a party with intense and foreign beats. The band “The Brothers” with Safaa Al-Saadi (flute, Arabian drums and keyboards), Sattar Al-Saadi (Arabian drums, flute) and Darvan Ahmed Abdulkarim (violin) play up-beat Arabian music. All three come originally from Iraq and have toured Europe and Asia with different bands for many years. The band plays a mixture of Arabian classics and music inspired by the modern pop-tradition in the Middle East. You will have the chance to enjoy both music and food, or to just conquer the dance floor.

Bens Café will serve classic dishes from the Arabian cuisine. Outside, there will be a hookah-café with tastes and scents resembling of the splendid restaurants in the old town of Damaskus.
