Possessed by Djinn
"Possessed by Djinn" functions as a look into the dark corners of religion and myth told in a literate, personal, and analytical fashion all at the same time.

A father murders his four-year-old daughter, but claims he was possessed by a djinn. This horrific story from Jordan inspires documentary filmmaker Dalia Al-Kury to dig deep into this controversial and relatively unknown aspect of Islamic culture. Many believe the djinns are supernatural creatures from a parallel universe and that their presence has the ability to influence sexuality, political tension, poverty, and mental health. We follow Al-Kury while she explores rituals and traditions connected to the belief in djinns. This is a fascinating and riveting story, but also a tragic tale about abuse and illness blamed on external forces, which largely exempt abusers from their responsibility and deprive victims of necessary help.
After the screenings of this film, there will be a conversation with director Dalia Al Kury.
