Nojoom, a ten year old Yemeni girl asks a judge in Sana'a to grant her a divorce. The official who is as shocked as the audience, is told Nojooms story about poverty, abuse, religious and cultural delusions. It all begins with Nojooms older sister Najla being raped and then married off to the rapist to avoid scandal. Some years later rumours surface saying Najla was not a virgin on their wedding night, and to avoid a new scandal the whole family moves to the capital Sana'a. Without work and with high rent the family decides to marry off Nojoom as to ensure the bridal fee. And when the much older husband and his mother takes Nojoom back with them to the countryside hell starts for Nojoom. The beautiful landscape images from the Yemeni village stands in sharp contrast to the ugly reality the main character live in. It gives a strong defence for children's inalienable rights and how these rights malfunction in the Middle East's poorest countries.
