Dancing Arabs
The 80s are ending. We become familiar with Eyad - an above average intelligent young boy growing up in a Palestinian family in Israel, while the Gulf War and the first intifada rages in the background. Eyad has gained admission, as the first Palestinian student ever, at a prestigious boarding school in Jerusalem and must leave home. The problem is that he feels alienated in the Israeli culture while he struggles with Hebrew. Rescue comes in the form of the beautiful Naomi and the relationship develops quickly into something more serious. Jonathan who lives alone with his mother suffers from a muscular disease. Suddenly the disease worsen dramatic and Eyad face a very difficult choice. Dancing Arabs joins the ranks of films by director Eran Riklis that promotes coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis. And although this agenda at times feel heavy, probably with the result that the most politically minded will find the film too naive, hopefully the rest will find it entertaining and engaging.
