Rags And Tatters Farsh w Ghata 3

An artistically uncompromising movie that is already claimed one of the most important and original portrayals of the revolution in Egypt. In Rags and Tatters we follow an unnamed prisoner who is set free from prison on the 25th of January 2011. Our hero doesn’t head towards Tahrir Square, but tries to seek shelter among the Sufis in the City of the Dead and the Christians in Cairo’s “Garbage City”. We get an insight into how the riots of the revolutions are experienced by the people who are not on Tahrir Square, but instead fight to survive on the outskirts of society.

With little use of dialogue and beautiful, lingering camera work, we get sucked into Abdallas experience of the revolution. Even though the movie is set to the days of revolution three years ago, it still gives a fresh aspect of the revolution that has not been shown on CNN, but that is of great importance to understand where Egypt is heading today. ktk
