«Driving a car in Egypt is like playing Frogger. It demands ability, courage and a belief in mankind», says a central character in the documentary Cairo Drive. The explosive increase in the number of cars and drivers, combined with a lack of driver’s education and the fact that it is possible to buy a driver’s licence, means that outsiders prefer to avoid manoeuvring through the Cairo traffic.

In this documentary, we get an ironic insight into the absurd situations created by traffic, and even those who have not experienced the irritation of Cairo’s traffic in person, will have to smile. A couple of characters take us through the apparent chaos and show us how, in reality, it is a wily system that holds the city together against all odds. The movie also shows that revolution and traffic chaos are more closely linked than one should think.

“Sherief Elkatsha's boisterous documentary offers a bitingly comical portrait of Cairo as seen through its nightmarish traffic conditions.” - Variety
